Lukewarm - Crazy Love

"Some people claim that we can be Christians without necessarily becoming disciples. I wonder, then, why the last thing Jesus told us was to go into the world, making disciples of all nations, teaching them to obey all that he commanded? You'll notice that He didn't add, 'But hey, if that's too much to ask, tell them to just become Christians - you know, the people who get to go to heaven without having to commit to anything' "

- Francis Chan Crazy Love

So what do you think? According to Francis, he thinks that there is no such thing as a lukewarm Christian. Either you are a Christian or you're not. Either you are sold out or you aren't. He thinks many Christians that say they are Christians, don't live out their calling.

This particular paragraph in his book rang home with me. I think he is right. I think we really don't see ourselves as disciples of Christ. It's like the word Christian is the lesser version of a disciple. Do we "struggle" with this or are we simply not taking hold of a bigger calling that God has for us. Do we not believe that God has called us to something bigger, better, and more powerful than just being "christians".

It's about having a passion and love for Jesus Christ. It's not about just "getting into" Heaven. It's about believing what Christ said was true that we must love the poor, widowed, lost, and hungry. We have to give up everything, just to gain life. It's not about obtaining more and more "blessings" from God. It's about recognizing that truly, as painful as it is, we aren't the solution.

We aren't the answer no matter who we are. We aren't perfect. Only God is.

Maybe when we come face to face what this is about. When we actually realize the Truth in the Bible, we won't be lukewarm ever again. To be lukewarm just doesn't make sense anymore. Why would you half heartedly follow?
